Questions & Answers

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about getting started at Rockstar Martial Arts.

Getting Started

Do I need any experience to join?
None at all. Every single Rockstar student started as a beginner. All of our programs are designed to welcome you exactly where you are — no experience, no equipment, and no prior fitness level required. Just show up.
What happens at my first class?
You'll be welcomed by one of our coaches, introduced to the class, and guided through everything step by step. We make sure first-timers feel comfortable before anything else. No one gets thrown to the wolves on day one.
Is the first class really free?
Yes — completely free, no strings attached. We want you to experience Rockstar before making any decisions. Find your nearest location and book your free class online or call us directly.
What should I wear and bring?
For your first visit, comfortable athletic clothes work great. We'll let you know what equipment or uniform you'll need after you decide to join. Most programs use a gi (uniform) which we can help you get.

Kids & Family

How old does my child need to be to start?
We enroll children starting at age 3 in our Preschool Martial Arts (Rocksters) program. Kids ages 4–12 are a great fit for our Kids Martial Arts and Anti-Bully programs. Teens join our adult BJJ and Muay Thai classes.
What's the difference between the Stage levels?
Stages group students by age and skill level so everyone is challenged appropriately. Rocksters is ages 3–4, Stage 1 is roughly 5–7, Stage 2 is 8–10, and Stage 3 is 10–14. Coaches assess and move students up as they develop.
Can parents watch class?
Absolutely. We have viewing areas at all locations so parents can watch their kids train. We actually encourage it — seeing your child grow on the mat is one of the best parts of the Rockstar experience.
Do you offer family discounts?
Yes — we offer multi-family member rates. Ask your local studio about current family pricing when you visit or call us.
Will martial arts make my child more aggressive?
The opposite. Martial arts training consistently reduces aggression in children by teaching emotional self-regulation, conflict de-escalation, and respect. Rockstar students learn that their skills come with responsibility — and that confidence doesn't require proving anything.

Programs

What programs do you offer?
We offer Preschool Martial Arts (ages 3–5), Kids Martial Arts (ages 4–12), Anti-Bully (ages 5–12), Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (all ages), and Muay Thai Kickboxing (teens & adults). All programs are available at our 5 DFW locations.
What is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu?
BJJ is a grappling art that teaches leverage and technique over size and strength. It's one of the most practical and complete martial arts for self-defense, and it builds incredible fitness, mental toughness, and community. Often called 'human chess.' All levels welcome.
What is the Anti-Bully program?
Our Anti-Bully program teaches kids ages 5–12 how to recognize, respond to, and prevent bullying — using confidence and assertiveness, not aggression. Students learn verbal de-escalation, boundary-setting, and when to involve adults. The result is a child who carries themselves differently.
Can adults train BJJ with no experience?
Yes — our adult BJJ program is specifically structured to welcome beginners. We pair new students appropriately so there's no pressure and no getting mauled on day one. You'll build skills fast in a supportive environment.

Membership & Scheduling

How much does membership cost?
Pricing varies by program and location. Your first class is always free, and we'll walk you through membership options after class. Contact your nearest location or stop by for details.
How often should I train?
Two to three times per week is a great starting point for most students. Consistency matters more than frequency — students who show up regularly see the fastest growth. Check each location's class schedule for times that fit your week.
Do I have to commit to a long contract?
We offer flexible membership options. Ask your local studio about month-to-month and commitment plans — we want the right fit for your family.

Still have questions?

The best way to get answers is to come in. Your first class is free — no commitment, no pressure.
